Mehmet Burak Taşkaya
PhD Candidate in Molecular Biology and Genetics
Bilkent University, Ankara · Advisor: Asst. Prof. Onur Çizmecioğlu
I study how disease-associated gene variants affect cell function in kidney epithelial cell lines. I also analyze RNA-seq and metabolomics data in R and Python.

Current work
Disease-associated variants in kidney epithelial cells
My thesis is a functional analysis of two genes associated with pediatric kidney developmental disorders.
Data analysis
In my PhD, I also analyze omics data: RNA-seq (Salmon, DESeq2), pathway enrichment (clusterProfiler, KEGG), metabolomics (MetaboAnalystR), and cross-omics integration, in R/Bioconductor and Python.
Teaching and mentoring
I was a teaching assistant for MBG 338 Microbiology Laboratory in Spring 2025 and Spring 2026. I also supervise interns at the bench.
